jousterApr 22, 03:48 PMApple should produce a really light and small MacBook Air: 400 to 600 g and 7-inches. The Mac in your pocket. Always.
You have big pockets!

ctdonathApr 30, 03:50 PMI could care less at the moment about external storage.
um, ok. Some of us do care, when there is no way an iMac will hold enough internal storage.
And it's "couldn't". Pet peeve.

jholznerAug 24, 08:20 AMmay be Creative could use this precedence to sue Microsoft and other competitors over their UI and make them pay for licenses too.
There's not real precedence since Apple settled. If it had gone to court and Apple lost, then there would be a precedence.

Edit: Tested on Three iPods now. One bought days after the first 5G was realsed right up to one bought in july... all work with itunes purchase and home encoded content. How are you home encoding? From What source type of video?
Both Mainline and Baseline 2-pass encodes from Handbrake at 640x480 won't load onto my iPod.
OK as far as I can tell exports from EyeTV2 and Handbrake will not work. But exports off an existing mp4 file from QuickTime Pro will. Looks like Elgato and Handbrake have some work to do. Sorry for the confusion.

jaydubAug 28, 11:06 PMAcctually what gets old is a look of the same thing for the long time. Now the Powerbook look is awesome, so improve upon it. All of us wishing for a new enclosure are not screaming we want a 17" White MB no no no. We are saying just change it up.
I always find it so funny these apple followers (not you, one I am posting to) that preach about how innovative apple is, but then minute another apple follower demands change, we get our torches, tar, and chicken feathers...
My dream would be a refined Powerbook look. Perhaps in a gunmetal (that super dark grey) still aluminum looking though.
Don't get me wrong, I would welcome a new enclosure but I think that allowing the prospect of one to be the determining factor in the purchase of a machine is ridiculous. As much as I would LOVE to have a gunmetal colored mbp, if it came out tomorrow I wouldn't be upset that I have a silver one because I truly do love my machine. Apple will always continue to innovate and release new products, and IMO now that they're using intel chips the rate of obsolescence will increase (in terms of harware and performance more than appearance).

JobsRulesOct 27, 12:20 PMSomebody please explain to me what GW Bush has to do with a Greenpeace story out of the London Mac Expo?
I'd guess because we now live in an era, often associated with the Bush era, where crushing all dissent is considered no biggie by a large section of the fear-controlled, TV-addled masses?
Therefore any heavy handed, over the top, removal of protestors or dissenters is therefore viewed in relation to the current climate.
Nothing wierd about that - historians talk about 'Victorian values' to denote a wide collection of social and political mores. People see the politics of fear, of removal of long-held liberties, planting fake new stories in the press, shouting down or restricting of dissent to be the defining characteristics of the 'Bush era'.

PorchlandSep 26, 07:49 AMOh man. Verizon early termination fee, here I come.
Yeah, this is pretty exciting news. I had already planned to call Verizon this morning to see when my contract is up.
EDIT: $175 termination fee per phone and a good while to go on the contract. Yeouch! I may just have to keep my fingers crossed that Verizon Wireless gets the iPhone late next year.

poppeAug 28, 10:50 PMBecause people are so scared of immediate obsolescence that they'd rather hope for a new enclosure than enjoy what is currently out. It gets really old.

miloSep 5, 04:22 PMDoes anybody think there will be a blu-ray announcement?
Doubt it. The hardware is extremely expensive, nobody is excited about it, and there's still a pretty big risk that bluray won't even catch on, whether it's beat out by hddvd or if neither catches on. At this point, bluray would likely just get a big yawn from the public.

callmeMar 29, 12:59 PMConsidering that, when the iPhone was first announced, Jobs stated he would be happy with a 1% share of the market, Apple isn't doing too badly. If MS gets their act together with the Windows phone, I can see it getting a larger share. I guess how big a share depends on how Apple and Google respond with their own innovations.
He said he would be happy with 1% of the TOTAL MOBILE PHONE MARKET SHARE, not just SMARTPHONES!
What % of the total do Apple actually have?
The latest figure I could see was 1.5%, not that much over the target the Steve set.
Don't read the % figure of the Smartphone market as being the target Steve was after!

PeaceSep 2, 08:53 PM....but can't find anywhere hard evidence for September 12. Macbidouille is referencing conformation from sources, but don't have a date. Hardmac has a copy of a meeting invite for the 19th. So, will there be a September 12 meeting? I really hope so, as I will be in Vegas that day, and don't mind to pick up some stuff at the Apple store. :)
It's not just you..
I have pointed to the MacNN confirmation of an Apple event on Sept.14th several times.
From MacNN :
"In brief: Apple has confirmed plans to hold a special event on September 14, coinciding with rumors of an Apple movie store launch in that time period...."
This is the ONLY confirmation from Apple to any online site I know of.

Because the mulitplier is unlocked , making it very easy to overclock.

clarksonknightDec 30, 10:22 AMIt makes sense. iProducts are increasingly becoming ubiquitous, therefore they will become more profitable for malware developers to attack. It's not a McAfee sales pitch so much as it's stating the obvious. Same with Android.

CaptainobvviousMar 30, 11:59 AMIts important to always note context.
Windows may be generic but only when you're trying to trademark the term for actual windows. Windows doesn't describe an OS... It is the same with office. If they wanted to call Office "Word Processor" it would be considered generic because they are trying to trademark the generic term to describe something.
App Store IS generic in that same sense.
But I think consideration needs to be paid to the circumstances too. There have been MANY application repositories many with names like "Marketplace". The term App Store was always there for the taking but none used it because it was a generic term that they didn't think was catchy.
Now Apple has used the term and it has become a household term associated with Apple... There is a brand awareness there they cultivated without needing a trademark.
Now that all the work has been done and people have an association with App Store the other companies want to use to for no other reason than to cash in on the strong name brand APP STORE has.
It is certainly incredibly generic but it does have strong brand association, consumer trust and recognition that was completely created by Apple.
NOTE: I KNOW the term App Store has been used in the past and Apple didn't invent it. They did take it from a n obscure, not widely used term and made it to the household name it is today.
